At Charleston Birth Place, we realize that women’s health goes beyond pregnancy and labor.

This is why we articulate the fact that health care for women is something that must be done all year round, typically at an annual appointment.

Our highly trained and qualified midwives can provide care throughout a woman’s lifetime via annual exams, family planning services, preconception visits, and of course, antenatal and prenatal visits. Let us be there for all your wellness needs!

What does Well Woman Care include at Charleston Birth Place?

At Charleston Birth Place, our team of Certified Nurse Midwives can provide you with these services beyond your prenatal services:

Annual exams

These are routine visits that every woman must get even if they’re perfectly healthy. These include a general history and examination. Screening for any reproductive health issues, sexually transmitted diseases, and even mental health issues.

The history includes an overview of how you feel daily and any health concerns that you are facing. It also reviews any medications that you might be taking, any lab tests that you might have gotten done, etc.

The examination is a general health assessment to see how you are overall. It may or may not include a vaginal exam, depending on whether or not it’s necessary.

Family planning counseling

If you’re planning to have a baby or take a break from having babies, a well-woman visit is a perfect place for you to discuss this.

If you’re planning to take a break, you can discuss different methods of contraception and get recommendations on which ones might be the best for you.

Preconception visits

If you’re planning to have a baby, discussing it with a healthcare provider at your well-woman appointment is a great place to get started.

You can discuss prenatal supplements, any lab tests that you might need, and any other precautions or things you need to keep in mind if you’re planning a baby.

You can also ask any questions about conceiving or any pregnancy-related concerns that you might have.

Remember, these visits are made keeping your health and well-being in mind, so they can be as expansive as you want. Feel free to discuss any issues or concerns with your healthcare provider to make these visits efficient and effective for yourself!
