Childbirth Education Classes

If you’re having your first baby, it’s okay to feel overwhelmed and clueless about the whole thing. A lot of women rely on word of mouth from friends and experienced family to help them figure things out along the way. But, no two women experience pregnancy and birth the same way. So if you don’t want to rely on that alone, childbirth education classes are just what you need!

Childbirth education is an integral part of preparing for pregnancy and a great way to get your knowledge from a reliable source.

If you’re receiving care at Charleston Birth Place, you’d be pleased to know that we offer classes through The Exchange Charleston.

The Exchange is located inside Charleston Birth Place and offers resources for holistic care before, during, and after pregnancy. All the classes are conducted by specialists and experts like Dr. Megan to ensure reliability and safety throughout the experience.

Some Of The Classes We Offer:

Hypnobabies

Hypnobabies is a class that helps women create shorter, easier, and more comfortable labor. It talks about tips and tricks women can use to prepare their bodies for labor.

This class walks you through yoga positions, pelvic floor exercises, and even nutritional support women can employ for safer, more effective labor without the need for any interventions.

Building Your Nest

This class is geared to the first-time mom & her partner or those who have had an epidural in the past and are now going the natural childbirth way.

It talks about the experience of having an epidural and how going the natural way after that seems daunting. But we talk about natural methods of pain relief and how we can make the experience more comfortable for mothers without the need for medical or surgical interventions.

Infant massage

Our infant massage classes are designed to help mothers learn the art of massaging their infants in a manner that is both safe and effective.

Infant massage is a great way to promote bonding between parents and baby, while also helping the baby grow through early-onset muscle and bone stimulation.

Different types of massages can be particularly useful for certain conditions like restlessness or colic. Learning how to do it right is extremely important to prevent any complications. We offer a 3-series class with Morgan Winkler, LMT which also includes everything you’ll need for the massage, including the baby oil!

Mama Care

The first few months after your delivery can be particularly challenging as a mother. Our mama care class is a once-a-week hour-long class that allows new mothers to talk to other new mothers going through the same experiences.

It gives them the chance to talk about challenges, hurdles, and anything else they’re having trouble with. It’s also a great space to talk about ways for self-care and how you can motivate yourself every day to do better for yourself and your baby.

Postpartum Recovery

Postpartum can be hard both physically and emotionally. Our series of postpartum classes offered by Dr. Megan covers a multitude of issues during the period.

She talks about pelvic floor rehabilitation and rejuvenation as well as how you can overcome issues like incontinence, constipation, etc.

The class also talks about the process of getting back into intimacy with your partner again. It helps you learn what you can do to make the experience more comfortable for both of you since it can be hard to know exactly what to expect while your body is still adjusting from having a baby.
