29 Mar Senate Medical Affairs Subcommittee Hearing 3/30
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR THE HEARING MARCH 30TH
You can meet at CBP and caravan to the statehouse or meet us there. You should plan to meet at CBP at 7:30 AM and leave by 8 AM. We will be providing donuts, coffee, & buttons. The hearing is scheduled for 10 AM Room 209 in the Gressette Building. Address 1101 Pendelton Street, Columbia, SC
Are children allowed: Yes, you might need to step into the hallway if they become too loud or wiggly.
What should you wear: Dress for the weather and walking. The statehouse grounds are lovely but there will be a little walking outside. You do not have to overly dress up but we would not recommend jeans or overly casual clothing.
Do you have to speak: No, There is opportunity for those willing to speak to sign up but showing your support by attending and wearing a button is very important.
What should I say: It is best to be direct and get to the point quickly. State your name and where you are from. Say you support 242. A personal story about why you support birth centers is effective and well received by the legislators. Be positive, polite and appreciative of their time. The legislators sometimes have questions. You do not have to have anything written but if you do please bring a copy for the committee members. You should know who your reps are. Sen Paul Campbell is the chair of the subcommittee that will hear the bill. If he is your Senator you should say so.
Have a hand-written note to each of your legislators and stop by their office to hand deliver while in Columbia.
